A reflection on the New Year: a poem by Tessara

New Year’s Revolutions

Exercise your right to be radical

Take your reservations and hurl them into

A high empty blue sky.

Scream obscenities at the

Top of your lungs;

Run around naked.

Paint designs on your arms and legs

In bright inks.

Walk on hot coals,

And charm snakes.

Reenact the Civil War

On the sidewalk.

Do cartwheels in skirts.

Meditate serenely

On top of metal newspaper boxes.

Juggle stolen apples on street corners.

Dance among the raindrops,

And never forgot to smile.
